Scott's Pick of the Month - November 07
Beginner Scout -
Our beginner scouts this month get to head along the coast and taste the beauty of Olympic National Park. Due to the severe weather in 2007, there have been a plethora of road closures that have led to some spectacular campgrounds closed to the general public, but left open for the adventurous few who do not mind slogging a few extra miles to get there.
The Dosewallips Road is closed approximately 5.5 miles away from the Dosewallips Campground. But the campground is still open and available year round to hearty hikers. There are pit toilets on site, but no potable water, so bring your water filters. Enjoy a leisure stroll through rain forests and old growth timber. Plenty of day hikes are available in the area as well.

Experienced Scout -
There are very few places in this world that I would call Heaven on earth, but this ranks in my top five most spectacular locations for beauty, serenity and grandeur. The Enchantments. Hikers that I have spoken with that have gone here, for some it changes their whole perspective of what nature and being one with the earth really means. There are no words that can describe the rapture you feel each morning when you wake up in this place. The air can not be sweeter, no where else can you truly feel at peace with your surroundings. Whatever your religious choice may be, you will feel as if you are one.
I place this hike now, as you will need to get your permits in before March 1, 2008 should you wish to take your scouts here. But I warn you, once you have been, your mind, body and soul will ache for the day that you can return.
